Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you\u2014who are you to judge your neighbor? <strong>James 4:11,12<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus could not have been clearer. He said, \u201cDo not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned\u201d (Luke 6:37). Those instructions were undoubtedly a regular part of our Savior\u2019s preaching and teaching. And why? Because human beings are so naturally and sinfully quick to judge others. It\u2019s easy for us to spot a sinner\u2026 until we\u2019re standing in front of a mirror. We tend to overlook our own spiritual flaws because we\u2019re so laser-focused on the sins of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And what\u2019s worse, after we notice our neighbor\u2019s sins, what\u2019s the next thing we\u2019re likely to do? Talk about it to someone else. God calls that slander, even if what we are saying about someone is 100 percent true, and through the pen of Saint James, he forbids it. \u201cBrother and sisters, do not slander one another.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judging others is truly ironic because by gleefully pointing out the sins of others, you\u2019re sinning yourself. James explained, \u201cAnyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.\u201d What are you doing when you stand in judgment over your neighbor? You\u2019re suggesting that you\u2019re in a better position to be your neighbor\u2019s judge than God is. You\u2019re attempting to push God off his judgment seat in order to take his place. It\u2019s a classic symptom of arrogant, sinful, and deadly pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But as James reminds us, \u201cThere is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy.\u201d So, let\u2019s leave the judging to Jesus. After all, \u201cWho are you to judge your neighbor?\u201d Jesus has the job of judging all people under control, and his judgments are perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"><strong>Prayer:<\/strong><br>Dear Jesus, save me from the sin of arrogantly and lovelessly judging others.
