We are now one month into the fall semester, and we thank God for the students he has brought to us, who are eager to learn and grow in his Word. Across our mainstream program and the countries served by RTEP, over 60 classes are being offered this semester. This month, the Lord, in his wisdom, has called Rev. Karl Gurgel and Mr. James Holman to heavenly glory. Both men had deep connections to the work of ALS. After completing his service as WELS synod president, Rev. Gurgel served as a visiting instructor in Hong Kong. During a full school year of teaching, he brought stability to ALS and was instrumental in laying out a path toward formal fellowship between SALEM and WELS. We were recently blessed by a visit from a group of families from SALEM Tai Po Lutheran Church, who traveled from Hong Kong to Thailand to experience and support cross-cultural mission work firsthand. Meeting these brothers and sisters was a great experience for our ALS professors. Asia Lutheran Seminary serves as the theological training arm of the Asia-Oceania Team (AOT). The AOT is a group of Lutheran missionaries that serve Asia and Oceania. This past week they met for their annual meeting to discuss short and long term strategic plans for their ministry in Asia. ALS’s role in this involves connecting national church leaders to whatever theological education needs they and their people may have. On July 23 Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Lutheran (STTL), a sister seminary to ALS in Indonesia, held a graduation ceremony. We praise God for answering the prayer to provide workers for the harvest field in Indonesia. We pray that he blesses the ministries of these men. We also pray that they are built up in the gospel of grace themselves even as they spread the message of salvation to others.
